Crocodile Encounter has
been offering, with tremendous demand, the opportunity for families to come to our facility and experience a one on
one guided tour of our crocodiles and other reptile species. Family days originated based on the number of calls we received
asking if it was possible for past visitors who came with a group and enjoyed the visit to bring their children for a visit
with the crocs. As we are not yet open to the public as a day park we decided to offer family tours by appointment. This has
proved to be extremely popular and has turned into one of our most enjoyable activities. Here is how it works:
1. Call or email(preferred) and set up your time to visit
Crocodile Encounter. Please be mindful that when you book we will turn others away as we limit tour space.
Be respectful of our schedule if the need arises to cancel by giving us 24 hr notice. **Important**
Please call or email to set up your tour. Plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to your tours start time. Tours start promptly
at the scheduled time.
2. You may pay upon arrival
or at the conclusion of your tour via cash, check, or credit card.
You may bring bananas, romaine lettuce, or other green vegetables for your tortoise feeding experience.
4. Upon arrival to the facility you will be greeted by your guide, you will enter the
entry building for a brief talk about the facility in general and will begin your interactive animal experience with some
of Crocodile Encounter's unique history.
5. Your first stop is our
tortoise nursery where you will see the world's largest tortoise species the Aldabra tortoise.
6. Then it's on to meet the heart of Crocodile Encounter- Sultan and his alligator brethren. The
large Texan predators are as fascinating as they are fearsome.
big gators to big tortoises you now enter the tortoise zone where you will interact and feed our herd of giant tortoises.
Great photos and often the highlight of the visit for many people.
your way from the tortoises you will pass through our Siamese crocodile exhibit and see some of the world's most endangered
animals up close and personal before emerging into our American alligator marsh. The feeding display here is often incredible
as the big reptiles come to you to get a meal.
9. After that
it's on to the Splash Zone and the home of our breeding group of East African Nile crocodiles. Watching these big animals
as they live there lives is an awesome spectacle.
10. Get ready to
meet our mascot Bud the capybara perhaps the most loved member of Crocodile Encounter.
11. Then it's off to meet maybe our most famous resident Ajax and his girlfriend Dawn. Madagascar Nile
crocodiles. If it's a feeding day you won't soon forget there two giants.
From there it's off to meet a variety of mammals from pigs, to Patagonian mara, and our eland herd. Before heading back to
touch a live alligator and see how they really feel!
Your tour will last between 1:15-1:45 minutes depending on the animals behaviour
and schedule for that day as well as your interactions with your guide. On occasion tours may exceed two hours but
we typically try to maintain a a 1:15- 1:30 minute pace. You will not forget this experience. Awesome animals,
great guides, no crowds. A wildlife event you will want to do over and over.
